Heather and Steve Cohen

People often ask Steven and me how we “got into” fostering dogs and I always say “by accident.”

I grew up with dogs and soon after Steven and I were married I told him we were getting a puppy… he thought I was kidding.

I brought Oliver home knowing that we would probably end up sleeping on the couch for the rest or our lives, but, one look and Steven was hooked, he WAS a dog person after all. Later that year we decided Oliver needed a fur pal and not wanting to go through the puppy stage I started checking out what our options would be. I just kind of stumbled on a rescue web page and found our Harry a beautiful red and white Boston terrier that had been rescued from a horrible situation.

You cannot convince me I did not give birth to my dogs; I love them more than anything. They are our life.

It occurred to me that there were many other “Harry dogs” out there. Scared dogs with no home, dogs that had been neglected, dogs that were considered disposable by their owners. We realized that while we couldn’t save every “Harry” we could join an organization like PAWS and open our home to as many dogs as possible.
